Single Tooth Implants in West Bloomfield, MI

One missing tooth replaced at the root as well as the crown, so it looks, feels, and works like the tooth you lost.

Replacing One Missing Tooth, Start to Finish

A single tooth implant replaces one missing tooth with a titanium post that takes the place of the root, topped by a custom crown matched to the teeth on either side. Unlike a bridge, it does not require shaping down the healthy teeth beside the gap.

Your dentist places the implant and makes the final crown here in our office, so you are not sent to a separate surgeon for half of your own treatment.

Who We Help

Is This Right for You?

One missing tooth changes more than it looks like it should. Any of these is a reason to have the space looked at.

  • You are missing one tooth, or one is about to be removed
  • You do not want healthy neighboring teeth shaped down for a bridge
  • A gap in your smile line bothers you when you talk or eat
  • Your bite has started shifting toward the space
  • You want the replacement that lasts longest with good care

Your Treatment

From Assessment to Your New Tooth

  1. Assessment

Your dentist checks the bone at the site, your gum health, and your bite, then confirms whether the implant can go straight in or needs bone built up first.

  2. Placing the Post

The implant post is placed into the jaw with local anesthesia. Most patients are back to normal activity the next day.

  3. Healing

Over the following months the implant fuses with your bone, which is what gives it the strength of a natural root. You wear a temporary tooth in the meantime.

  4. Your Crown

We fit the custom crown, match the shade to the teeth beside it, and adjust the bite until it feels like it was always there.

After Your Treatment

Single Tooth Implants Aftercare and Recovery

Recovery varies from person to person. This is what most patients can expect, and your dentist goes through your own instructions with you before you leave.

The First 24 Hours
Light oozing for the first few hours is normal, and gentle pressure with gauze settles it. Rest with your head raised and leave the site alone rather than checking it with your tongue or a finger. Avoid rinsing forcefully, spitting, and straws for the first day.
What to Eat and What to Avoid
Soft, cool foods for the first several days, chewed on the opposite side. Avoid crunchy and chewy foods that would load the implant while it is settling in. Smoking slows healing at implant sites in particular, so avoiding it through this period is worth the effort.
Swelling and Discomfort (Edema)
Most people find implant placement more comfortable afterward than they expected, often easier than the extraction that preceded it. Swelling is usually modest and peaks in the first two to three days, helped by a cold compress on the first day. Your dentist will go over what to take before you leave.
How the Implant Settles In (Osseointegration)
The gum closes within a week or two, but the implant itself needs the surrounding bone to grow tightly against it before it can carry a crown. That process commonly takes somewhere in the range of three to six months, and it varies with the site, the bone, and whether bone grafting was part of the plan. We restore the implant with a crown only once it is ready.
When to Call the Office
Call our office if discomfort is increasing rather than easing after the first few days, if swelling grows after about day three, or if bleeding restarts and does not settle. Call if the implant or any healing component feels loose or moves, or if the site develops a persistent bad taste. A fever is worth a call rather than waiting.

Your Dentists

Placed and Restored in One Office

We place and restore implants in our own office, including bone grafting and sinus lift procedures when the jaw needs preparing first. It is common for a practice to send the surgical half elsewhere and handle only the final crown. Here every stage happens in one place, with one set of records and one team who already know your case.

New patients are usually seen within the same week.

Common Questions

Single Tooth Implants Questions

How long does a single tooth implant take from start to finish?

Usually a few months, most of which is healing time while the implant fuses with the bone. The appointments themselves are short.

Is an implant better than a bridge for one missing tooth?

Usually yes. An implant replaces the root, which helps preserve jawbone, and it does not require shaping down the healthy teeth on either side the way a bridge does.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The placement itself is done with local anesthesia and most patients are comfortable throughout. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is normal and manageable.

How long do dental implants last?

With good hygiene and regular checkups, implants routinely last decades. The crown on top may need replacing sooner than the post itself.

Am I a candidate for a single tooth implant?

Most people are, and the question is usually about bone rather than about age. Your dentist checks the height and width of bone at the site, the health of the gums around it, and how the tooth above or below closes into the space. Where bone has already shrunk into an old gap, bone grafting rebuilds enough to place the implant, and that is planned in advance rather than discovered on the day. Uncontrolled gum disease and smoking both lower the success rate, so both get addressed as part of the plan.

How soon can I go back to work after the implant is placed?

Most patients go back the next day for ordinary desk work, and many go back the same afternoon. Placement is done with local anesthesia rather than a general, so there is no grogginess to sleep off. Expect mild soreness and some swelling for a few days, which over the counter pain relief handles for most people. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise are worth leaving for a couple of days, because raising your blood pressure early on is what tends to restart bleeding at the site.

Does insurance cover a single tooth implant?

It depends on the plan. Some contribute toward the implant itself, some toward the crown on top of it, and some toward neither. We verify your benefits before treatment is planned and explain exactly what applies to you. The quickest way to get a real answer for your own case is a short conversation.
