Dental Exams and Cleanings in West Bloomfield, MI

A thorough exam and a professional cleaning every six months is the single most effective thing you can do to keep dental treatment small and infrequent.

Dental Cleanings and Exams for New Patients and Families

A checkup is two things: a cleaning that removes what brushing cannot, and an exam that finds problems while they are still small. A cavity caught at a checkup is a filling. The same cavity found a year later is often a crown or a root canal.

Your exam also includes an oral cancer screening at no extra cost, and if your gums measure deeper than they should, your dentist will talk to you about a deep cleaning rather than simply booking you in again in six months. Children and adults prone to decay are often offered fluoride treatments at the same visit.

A dental cleaning in West Bloomfield with our team takes about an hour. We are accepting new patients, and we will send a reminder when you are due so it never quietly slips by a year.

The exam is the half people underrate. A cleaning is what you feel, but the examination around it is what changes the next few years: a cavity spotted while it is still in enamel, a cracked filling caught before it breaks, gum measurements that have crept deeper since last time. None of those hurt yet, and every one of them is cheaper and simpler to deal with now than later.

Who We Help

Is This Right for You?

You do not need a problem to book a cleaning. Any one of these is reason enough.

  • It has been six months or more since your last cleaning
  • You are new to the area and need a regular dentist
  • Your gums bleed when you brush or floss
  • You can see staining or buildup along the gum line
  • You want to stay ahead of problems rather than react to them

Your Visit

What Happens at Your Visit

  1. Your History

On a first visit we go through your dental and general health history, because both affect what your mouth needs and what is safe to do.

  2. The Exam

Your dentist checks each tooth, your gums, your bite, and soft tissues, with images taken only when they are actually needed.

  3. The Cleaning

We remove plaque and hardened tartar above and along the gum line, then polish. Most cleanings are comfortable and take about an hour.

  4. What Comes Next

You leave knowing exactly what we found, what needs attention, what can be watched, and when your next visit should be.

Common Questions

Dental Exams and Cleanings Questions

How often should I get a dental cleaning?

Every six months suits most patients. If you have gum disease or other risk factors, your dentist may recommend a shorter interval.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Royal Dental Center is accepting new patients of all ages. Call (248) 863-9109 and our team will find you an appointment, including Saturdays.

Does a dental cleaning hurt?

A routine cleaning is generally comfortable. If your teeth are sensitive or your gums are inflamed, tell us and we will adjust our approach and use numbing gel.

Do I need x rays at every visit?

No. Images are taken based on your risk and how long it has been since the last set, not automatically at every appointment.

What if it has been years since my last visit?

It changes nothing about how you are treated here. The first visit is an examination and a conversation, not a lecture, and we sort what we find into what needs attention now and what can be watched. Plenty of people have put this off long enough to be embarrassed about it and every one of them was seen the same way as anybody else. If nerves are what kept you away, say so when you book, because sedation with nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is available on most visits.

Can I have my cleaning and my exam on the same visit?

Yes, and that is how most appointments run. The exception is a first visit where we find gum measurements deeper than a routine cleaning can reach, because cleaning above the gum line while disease is active below it treats the wrong surface. In that case your dentist explains what a deep cleaning involves and books it properly rather than doing half a job on the day.

Does insurance cover exams and cleanings?

Preventive visits are what most dental plans cover most fully, commonly twice a year. We work with most major PPO plans, and we verify your benefits before your visit. The quickest way to get a real answer for your own case is a short conversation. Call us at (248) 863-9109 or book online.
